Sewing pattern tutorial: hacking the Hespéride blouse into a dress
Transform the Hespéride blouse into a bohemian dress for summer
The Hespéride blouse is the softness of the À L'Ombre Des Roses collection: its line is airy, its cut loose and comfortable. This sewing pattern features numerous couture details that give the model all its character:
-
The pretty folds on the shoulder,
-
The front cut line that constructs the bust with the top supported and the bottom that deploys without excess volume, with the possibility of adding or not a button tab ,
-
The back is incredibly charming with its delicate neckline , its wide tie and the gathers which give the garment its bohemian look.
Hespéride dress version: an easy and inspiring sewing hack
Such a pretty cut deserved a sewing hack, for a dress version that will accompany you into the sweetness of summer.
How to lengthen the Hespéride blouse?
It is a very simple transformation, because you just need to extend the side line of pieces (4).lower front and (5).lower back .
For our version, we added 35 cm to the bottom of the blouse, in order to obtain a dress below the knee. Marie-Sophie is a little over 1m60 tall and I find the proportions interesting, especially since the dress opens out a lot when moving.
Tip : You can vary this length according to your desires and the style you are looking for:
-
Shorter for a babydoll dress,
-
A little longer for a hippie chic style.
Be careful with the width of your fabric : you will be limited on the maximum length for a conventional width of width. We tested for the largest size and it will be possible for you to lengthen the blouse by a maximum of 40 cm in size 52 for a fabric with a width of 140 cm (beyond this the pieces do not fit into the width). For smaller sizes or widths of different dimensions, I recommend that you lay your pattern pieces flat following the cutting plans below because it is not possible for us to provide you with the values and cutting plans for each size, in each desired elongation value and each particularity of width of fabric width ;)
The sewing steps are strictly identical to those described in the brochure and the video sewing tutorial . And you can of course choose whether or not to sew the button placket.
A very Fauve Hesperide dress
For this hack I chose our new tencel, linen and cotton dupion fabric Fauve color . The material is incredible, the pleats and gathers are well highlighted by the fabric and its drape lends itself perfectly to the cut of the pattern. The good hold of the fabric allows the dress to "dangle" well and it is perfectly opaque.

I can't wait to see your versions of this DIY summer dress , I'm sure that printed fabrics like our viscose poplins will also be a very nice idea for sewing the Hespéride dress. I chose to create the most incredible bohemian Alhambra lace dress with this pattern... But that will be the subject of a future appointment in the Maison Fauve Journal !
