Varsity Stripe Style Inspiration
Outfit Idea 1: I wanted to play with the contrast between sporty pieces and the more “academic” stripe. The relaxed feel of the jogging trousers meets the structured elegance of the striped shirt. For this look, I combined the Mimosa blazer in navy dupion, the Scala shirt in Emerald Green Varsity, and the Sacha jogging trousers in light grey heather sweatshirt fabric.
The result: a modern, effortlessly wearable silhouette for every day.

Outfit Idea 2: Why not dare a full striped look? Perfect for summer, the combination of soft shorts and a matching shirt feels fresh, playful, and effortlessly chic — ideal for slipping on over a swimsuit. A charming ensemble for carefree days by the sea.
I’m wearing the Scala shirt and Songe shorts in Varsity Emerald Green.

Outfit Idea 3: Why not experiment with colour? The timeless preppy style continues to inspire us, and mixing hues or changing the direction of the stripes gives your handmade shirt a fresh, original twist — making your creation truly one of a kind.
Paired with light or white denim, a beautifully tailored Skyline or Scala shirt in multi-coloured Varsity makes for the perfect sewing project.

Which sewing projects are Varsity best suited for?
This fabric can be used to sew many patterns from the Maison Fauve wardrobe:
- Tops and Polo Shirts :The Malibu polo shirt in Varsity Cobalt Blue is simply perfect. We’ve sewn the collar and button placket in white tencel to create a striking contrast and highlight its sporty spirit. A short-sleeved version of the Cicadella top, a Spritz tank duo, or the Marisa top are also wonderful alternatives for your next summer sewing project.

-
Elegant Blouses: Shown here in Lemonade Yellow with the Déferlante blouse pattern, this fabric is equally suited to the Tempête draped-collar blouse, the graceful Hespéride blouse with its gathered back, or a Péninsule blouse-dress hack finished with a chic pussy bow.

-
A Shirt with True Style :The Scala shirt looks stunning in Emerald Green stripes, but the Vittoria, Skyline, or Atlas blouses are equally refined choices - each bringing its own distinctive charm to this elegant fabric.

- A Head-to-Toe Striped Look : The Soupir pattern is a true gem for creating a beautifully striped pyjama - a timeless classic. You can also count on the Songe and Blush duo for an effortlessly elegant ensemble. Paired with the Mimosa blazer in Marron Glacé dupion, the result is simply stunning.
Set against a crisp white background, three striking colours stand out: an intense Cobalt Blue, a rich Emerald Green, and a vibrant Lemonade Yellow. Chosen for their graphic impact and subtle contrasts, these shades modernise traditional lines while evoking the refined charm of a preppy wardrobe.
Varsity tells the story of a silhouette that embraces contrast - masculine precision, vibrant colour energy, and the fluid elegance of viscose jacquard. A perfect foundation for reinventing your everyday essentials.

Sewing Tips for Varsity Viscose Jacquard
-
Recommended needles : Use a 70/10 Microtex needle to respect the fineness of the fibre. The Varsity viscose jacquard contains subtle lurex threads, and a fine needle designed for delicate fabrics will give you the best result.
-
Cutting : The Varsity stripe is woven horizontally. If you’d like to use it with vertical stripes, you’ll need to adjust your cutting layout and yardage — especially for patterns requiring more than 1.50 m of fabric at 140 cm width.
Because yardage varies depending on the pattern, size, and any personal adjustments, we can’t provide a specific fabric requirement. The fabric is 150 cm wide; we recommend arranging your pattern pieces within a 150 cm–high rectangle to determine the necessary width. -
Finishing : The Varsity jacquard may fray slightly, so finish your seams with an overlock or French seam for a clean, professional result.
-
Care Instructions :Wash delicately at 30°C in a laundry bag with a gentle spin cycle. Iron at medium temperature and avoid tumble drying to preserve the beauty of the fabric.
Assorted haberdashery

As always, we’ve handpicked the perfect haberdashery to complement the Varsity fabric:
- Thread: Choose classic white (always a safe choice) or match your thread to the colour of the stripes for each colourway.
-
Buttons: Opt for natural mother-of-pearl two-hole buttons — a timeless essential - or add a refined touch with Wink Mat Satin or Wink Glossy Pearl buttons for blouses and shirts.
-
Interfacing: Use a lightweight iron-on adhesive (G710) to stabilise cuffs, collars, and button plackets while maintaining the fabric’s fluidity.
