Too cute to pass up, the scrunchie is the most adorable AND super easy to sew accessory of the summer! A star of the 80s and 90s, it's a little Proustian madeleine for your hair, a fun accessory that you'll love to customize.
The scrunchie is making a strong comeback this summer, and it's not going unnoticed: in a maxi and ultra-colorful version, it stands out for hairstyles that don't take themselves too seriously. My preference goes to large-format models, which can obviously be worn in the hair to embellish a ponytail or a bun, but which also look great on the wrist, a scrunchie bracelet like a mega piece of jewelry... There's no question of hiding it in your handbag like a common elastic.
Sewing level: Beginner.

Supplies

A strip of fabric 16 cm high and the width of the fabric. I used our Red Passion Lurex Tencel Twill, so the strip is 16x160 cm, but a 16x140 cm strip will also give you a beautifully sized scrunchie.

A spool of thread matching your fabric

17 cm of 10 mm elastic (this measurement will depend on the "elasticity" of your elastic; the one used in this tutorial has some firmness)

A hand needle for finishing

A bias tape maker or, failing that, a thin wooden rod
Fabric
A thin and flexible fabric to achieve a beautiful ruffly effect for the scrunchie. Everything will depend on the desired effect: rather printed with Maison Fauve's range of viscose poplins, sophisticated in viscose jacquard like Tiger or Lucente, Tencel satin or metallics, but also very pretty and comfortable in Tencel dupioni, linen, and cotton.
