Sewing Pattern Tutorial: How to Sew the Calypso Jacket?
Calypso is an adorable little coat pattern. Launching in the Calypso sewing box , it is available in tweed and hounds tooth wool. To make it easier to read the video tutorial, we have also made it available in Sergio mid-weight denim . And you can also sew the pattern with gabardine, velvet, tailored wool, and mid-weight fabrics.
The cut is quite simple, and it will easily fit in with your existing wardrobe. Calypso does not lack the details that give the garment all its originality: a pretty collar supported by a small collar stand mounted in inlay, patch pockets with flaps, a small flap that embellishes the back and makes up the DNA of overcoats, and the bottom of the sleeves are embellished with a faux button placket for a couture look without the technical difficulties of the lined and buttoned bottom of the sleeve.
Its shape is rather straight, worked at the front by a large waist dart, and its length falls to the small of the hips (find all the finished garment measurements on the product sheet of the pattern ). The gathered back version will bring more ease at the bottom and more roundness to the cut.
To vary the styles, and for the pleasure of adapting the piece, we offer several variations on the pattern:
-
With or without a collar
-
Simple back or gathered back
-
With or without a decorative tab at the bottom of the sleeves
The pattern is of intermediate sewing level, it does not involve any particular technical difficulties, and will be an opportunity for seamstresses who wish to progress to sew their first lined jacket. The technical aspects covered in this step-by-step sewing video are:
-
Sewing hollowed out darts
-
Making gathers
-
Assembling a collar with a collar stand
-
Placing pockets
-
Fitting sleeves and placing a sleeve head strip
-
Assembling a lining on a jacket
We will support you every step of the way for an easy sewing experience and a hand-sewn project that will make you proud.
Happy sewing!
