For this reinterpretation, we’ve leaned into couture-inspired details: hand-sewn flower buttons, invisible snaps, and our ultra-elegant Mystic Rose jacquard. The signature features of Niki shine even more in this version - the graceful dancer neckline and the beautifully structured pleated sleeve.

Fabric requirements

👉 For a width of 140 cm:

Sizes 34 to 46: 1.50m
Sizes 48 to 52: 2m

Sewing tip: remember to allow for some extra fabric when working with directional fabrics or a placed pattern fabrics, such as jacquard.

Essential supplies

To create the jacket version of the Niki hack, you’ll need:

The Niki pattern
Your chosen fabric
Matching thread
Fusible interfacing suitable for your fabric (we used Vlieseline G710)
4 snap fasteners (21 mm) - ideal for the flower button version or 4 buttons of approximately 20 mm for a classic buttoned jacket

This hack has been designed as a button-through, vest-style top and is unlined. There are currently no plans to offer a lined version.

Which fabrics should you choose for this hack?

This hack works best with fabrics that have a little structure, while still remaining comfortable to wear. The goal is to achieve a true jacket feel without excessive stiffness.

Recommended fabrics:

Medium weight jacquard
Light to medium weight denim
Gabardine
Suiting wool
Medium weight tweed

To avoid: Very fluid fabrics such as viscose or lightweight crepe, as they won’t provide enough structure to create the desired jacket effect.

The trompe-l'œil flower buds: The Detail That Changes Everything

The standout feature of this version is the hand-sewn flower buttons. They replace traditional buttons while keeping the garment practical, thanks to discreet snap fasteners underneath.

The flowers are made using Maison Fauve’s latest Hand-Sewn Flower tutorial, with one small adaptation to suit the fabric choice: the strip used to create the petals measures 4 x 60 cm and is not folded in half. The raw edge is finished neatly with a rolled hem for a refined result.

Once assembled, the flowers are hand-stitched onto the jacket purely as a decorative detail, while the snaps ensure an easy and secure closure.

Mystic Rose Jacquard: The Star fabric for the Jacket 💗

The jacket shown here is sewn in the stunning Mystic Rose jacquard - a beautifully textured, tone-on-tone fabric that feels both elegant and confident. It enhances the lines of the reimagined Niki pattern perfectly, particularly the signature pleated sleeve.
