Yellow in all its forms: how to wear summer’s flagship colour

Canary, lemonade, mimosa or buttercup, yellow is THE colour of the season. Whether you like a sultry, bright and punchy yellow, or a softer, summery Fizz yellow, check out my inspiration for looks and how to mix and match with other colours. In an overall look, paired with nudes, playing with contrasts or graphic stripes, add a dash of lemon to your summer outfits!

Total lemony look

Yellow works really well in monochrome. You can keep the same tone and really emphasise the idea of a complete look, as in my Mimosa and Cosmopolitan short suit in Sulfur gabardine.

But why not use different materials: that’s what I did by combining my Mimosa jacket in gabardine with my matching Daïquiri dress in Sulfur lace.

It’s also possible to create a palette that combines several shades of yellow: the luminosity and depth of yellow varies according to the shades and materials chosen, so the result can be really striking.

Combining yellow and nudes tones

Yellow becomes the star of the show when combined with more neutral tones such as greige, beige, sand or a very soft pink. These colour combinations allow you to have fun with yellow, which is a strong colour, while maintaining a look that’s easy to wear every day. It’s soft, it’s chic, it’s refreshing... Irresistible!

Combining yellow with cool colours

The clash of colour contrasts seems punchy, but it’s all a question of dosage. Yellow is a primary colour, and is used to create many intermediate colours such as khaki, lagoon blue and meadow green. Depending on what you fancy, you can combine yellow with another strong colour for a colour block outfit, or use it in dashes on an accessory, or even on the lapel of a collar or the lining of a jacket. It’s also possible to combine it with a pastel colour, in keeping with the idea of combining yellow and nude. I played with this more nuanced option by combining the very bright sultry yellow with our Smoky blue, a very soft bluish grey.

Dolce Vita-style summer stripes

Yellow and white stripes act like a postcard from a seaside holiday: deckchairs, parasols and lemon-flavoured Italian ice immediately spring to mind like a summer Madeleine de Proust.

Our Fizz yellow Berlingot polyviscose voile is perfect for sewing yellow and white striped looks like the Skyline shirt, the Malibu polo with its contrasting white collar or the beautiful Cuba Libre dress.

The most elegant of bees

You might well question the pertinence of combining black stripes with yellow, you might... But it works perfectly! All the same, I prefer to combine one striped piece with another in a plain yellow fabric, for an adorable little preppy look. A beautiful sun skirt and a slightly tight striped cardigan, punchy yellow trousers with a little sailor-style top, the charm works and it’s not so confusing after all... Is yellow the new black? :visage_légèrement_souriant:
