Primrose Dress Sewing Tutorial

Primrose is a skater dress sewing pattern that offers several versions to vary the style and level of difficulty:

  • A dress with a deep back supported by a neckband or a closed back dress

  • A pleated/twisted buttoned cuff or a pleated/twisted closed cuff

  • The option of not making the cuff pleats by using the inner cuff pattern pieces

The skirt is made of panels for a flowing, dancing fit, the waistband is fixed on the front and supported by an elasticated waistband in the back.

You can sew Primrose in many fabrics: a viscose jacquard for a very elegant version like the Lily viscose jacquard from the Primrose sewing box, but also plain viscose twills or printed viscose poplins like the Léo Scarabée poplin used in this step-by-step sewing video.

Primrose's video tutorial will cover in detail all the technical points to sew your dress:

  • Assemble a faced neckband

  • Finish the back neckband neatly with a concealed hem

  • Sew a waistband which will serve as a holder for the elastic back

  • Make an rip stop slit for the buttoned cuff version

  • Assemble a buttoned cuff

  • Adding on sleeves

Happy sewing!
