Sewing Tutorial: How to Hack the Cuba Libre Dress into a Blouse

At Maison Fauve, we firmly believe that each of our sewing patterns is made to be loved and sewn again and again. Reimagined through the seasons and brought to life in new fabrics, your favourite designs are endlessly versatile. This summer, I’ve chosen the beautiful Cuba Libre dress as my playground — and I’ve got something special in store for you.

We’re thrilled to bring you — in the the Summer 2025 edition of the magazine L’Œil Fauve, - the additional pattern pieces to create an adorable Cuba Libre blouse.

Lightweight, quick, and easy to sew, this variation is perfect for beginner sewists (the dress is too — we promise!). And to make things even simpler, we’ve prepared a step-by-step video tutorial to guide you through every detail.

The key techniques covered include:

  • Sewing darts
  • Attaching a facing to a V-neckline
  • Creating gathers
  • Setting in sleeves

This sewing hack includes new front and back bodice pieces, so you will need the original original Cuba Libre dress pattern to make the blouse version. The additional pieces are included exclusively in the L’Œil Fauve magazine.

    • The additional pieces are in PDF format (A4, A3, and US Letter with guides to help assemble the pages, A0, and video projection),

    • Seam allowances are included in the pattern and are 1 cm,

    • A detailed, illustrated instruction booklet is also included in the downloadable files (with cutting layouts by size range, finished garment measurements to help you choose your size, required supplies, fabric length, and fabric recommendations).
