Sewing Pattern Tutorial: The Cuba Libre Dress

Light and dancing, impossible to resist the Cuba Libre dress! The pattern is available in an fiery open back version and a more demure closed back and bra compatible version. This dress pattern is as pretty as it is accessible when it comes to sewing. The waist is supported with a blousy effect on the front bust, while the back of the dress is elasticated, so no zip or buttonholes are required.

The front bust has a scooped neckline with a very feminine V neckline, and the butterfly sleeves are very comfortable to wear in summer.

The technical points covered in this video sewing tutorial are:

  • Sewing gathers
  • Placement of an elasticated waistband
  • Fitting sleeves
  • Sew a facing onto a V-neckline

Gypset Style: A Boho Cuba Libre Dress!

For this version of the dress, the amount of fabric is different because the shell lace has a particular orientation. The placement will be done with the fabric folded, with a height of 1.4 meters, and the fabric quantities are: 2.8 meters for sizes 34-36, 3 meters for sizes 38-44, and 3.3 meters for sizes 46-52. The dress is fully lined on the skirt and front bodice, following the information provided in the brochure (assembly instructions and fabric quantities for the lining are all explained). The lining was cut from our cotton voile. Find the cutting layout here:
